Jerry Carter was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree from Bethune Cookman College and his Masters degree from Jacksonville University. His musical career started in 1975 where he spent 35 years teaching band and chorus within the Duval county school system. He taught for 7 years at Matthew Gilbert, 8 years at Kirby Smith Junior High, and 20 years at Southside Middle School before retiring.

Jerry Carter was a member of the Florida Band Masters Association.
Retirement
Jerry Carter has been an active band member and part-time Conductor for the Recycles Band. Additionally, Jerry has been an active member of the Jacksonville Community Band since 2009, as well as the Conductor for a number of years.
Retirement Activities
Jerry is a Founding Member of the Jacksonville Jaguars. He is also a Founding Member of the Northeast Florida Campers RV Club, and served as its President for 10 years. Additionally, he has been a member of the Family Motor Coach RV Association and was a member of their Frustrated Maestros musical group.
Personal
Jerry is a proud father of three daughters, and an even prouder Granddaddy of five grandchildren.
